USAthlete Tours encourages all registrants to consider whether purchasing travel insurance is appropriate for their individual needs and circumstances. That said, based on our experience with our programming structure and billing system, we do not believe travel insurance is the right solution for most travelers. At a minimum, we generally do not view it as a necessary consideration until approximately four to five months prior to tour departure.
USAthlete Tours works to protect as much of each registrant’s deposited funds as possible for as long as possible. However, once registration is completed and a tour is confirmed, certain deposited funds may be at risk and potentially non-refundable in accordance with the tour terms. For many months, this potential financial exposure is typically less than the cost of purchasing travel insurance.
As noted above, in most situations, we do not believe that more of a traveler’s funds are at risk than the cost of travel insurance until roughly four to five months before departure. At that point, travelers may wish to consider purchasing insurance. Travelers should carefully assess their personal circumstances, identify specific concerns that could prevent participation, research insurance coverage that addresses those concerns, and evaluate the associated costs.
If a traveler chooses to purchase travel insurance, the tour must be paid in full and a receipt provided to the insurance provider to insure the trip cost. USAthlete Tours can recommend travel insurance providers; however, we do not partner with or contract with any specific insurance company or agency.
Some travelers may also have travel-related protections available through their credit cards and may wish to review those benefits directly with their card issuer.
Prospective or registered travelers are welcome to contact USAthlete Tours to discuss these considerations further.
USAthlete Tours does not provide legal, financial, or insurance advice, and decisions regarding travel insurance are the sole responsibility of the traveler.
